ELSA Izmir proudly presents the 4th edition of the Summer ELSA Law School Izmir on Trade Law & Competition, taking place from July 27 to August 3 2025, in the dynamic city of Izmir!
Known as the "Pearl of the Aegean," Izmir has been a historical hub of trade and cultural exchange for centuries. With its vibrant social life, rich cultural heritage, and the mesmerizing atmosphere of the Aegean Sea, the city offers participants an unforgettable experience. This program, focusing on Trade Law and Competition Law—key areas shaping the global economy—perfectly aligns with Izmir’s deep-rooted commercial history.
The academic programme will be hosted by Izmir University of Economics and will feature lectures by distinguished academics and professionals specializing in trade and competition law. Participants will also have the opportunity to reinforce their theoretical knowledge through institutional visits and a case study.
Beyond its academic excellence, this week will be filled with cultural and social activities! For history enthusiasts, visits to the Ancient City of Ephesus and the House of the Virgin Mary will be organized. Additionally, you will enjoy a breathtaking boat tour in Kuşadası, immersing yourself in the crystal-clear waters of the Aegean. To complete the experience, after taking a sunset walk along Izmir’s famous Kordon, you can join us in exploring the lively atmosphere of the city at Kemeraltı Bazaar, one of the world’s oldest bazaars.

The Academic Programme of SELS Izmir’25 offers a comprehensive look into international trade and competition law. Participants will explore key topics such as trade barriers, trade remedies, digital trade, and dispute resolution, gaining both theoretical and practical insights into global commerce. Lectures will also cover regional trade agreements and the role of arbitration in resolving trade conflicts.
The competition law segment examines cartels, abuse of dominance, merger control, and digital market regulations. Participants will gain a deeper understanding of how legal frameworks shape market dynamics, state intervention, and competition enforcement. Through expert-led sessions, they will analyze real-world cases and regulatory challenges.
Institutional visits to IZTO (Izmir Chamber of Commerce) and IZARAMER (Izmir Mediation Center) will provide firsthand exposure to trade and competition law enforcement. Additionally, case studies on trade disputes and competition law violations will allow participants to apply their knowledge in practical scenarios, enhancing their analytical and problem-solving skills.
