ELSA Kyiv invites you to the one of the oldest and nicest cities in Europe to attend our first edition of ELSA Summer School on topic of the Law of Armed Conflicts and International Security.  Our aim is to familiarize you with the topic of the school during lectures and workshops, which are going to be held by representatives of international organizations. The participants will have the  opportunity to become more acquainted with the World historical and cultural heritage, protected by UNESCO.  We would love to welcome you in our  beautiful city, where you can find new friends.

The one of key component of international law and security is the law governing the use of force between states and the rules governing the conduct of hostilities. he area encompasses questions such as permissible use of force under the U.N. Charter, the scope and application of the Geneva Conventions; issues relating to peacekeeping and stability operations, conflict resolution, and post-conflict reconstruction; and legal responses to contemporary challenges, such as failing and fragile states, the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction, transnational crime, and terrorism.

The topic is very extensive and interesting, although we will focus on the most remarkable questions:

  • Introduction to the Law of Armed Conflict and International Security
  • Information warfare as part of armed conflicts
  • Role of Authorities in maintenance of international security
  • Role of NATO in international security
  • Role of OSCE in conflict prevention and resolution
  • Peacekeeping operations conducted by UN: regulation, features
  • Solving humanitarian problems that arise during and after armed conflicts
  • Protection of the human rights of civilians in armed conflict
  • Responsibility for war crimes. International Tribunal
