Antwerp – IP & Competition Law

Description

ELSA Antwerp is organising its seventh Summer ELSA Law School, which will take place from June 30 - July 7, 2024. The SELS will be held in Antwerp, “the city of diamonds”.

During our SELS, Participants will have the chance to delve into Intellectual Property and Competition Law, subjects particularly relevant in Antwerp, renowned for its fashion houses and designers. The Academic Programme is designed to enhance Participants' understanding of these fields through engaging lectures and visits, benefiting from Antwerp's proximity to Brussels, the EU capital, and its abundance of firms and specialists in these areas.

ELSA Antwerp is dedicated to providing an interesting and entertaining introduction to life in the city, allowing you to explore its rich history and culture. Enjoying Belgian cuisine and engaging in various enjoyable activities, our Social Programme aims to ensure an unforgettable and enriching experience throughout the week of your stay in Antwerp.

Academic Programme

Intellectual Property encompasses concepts familiar to us all, such as trademarks, copyrights, and patents. This branch of law intersects closely with Competition Law, which seeks to safeguard fair market competition by restricting anti-competitive behaviour among businesses.

The Academic Programme of our SELS will start with an introduction to Intellectual Property and Competition Law, along with a lecture focusing on copyright. This establishes a strong foundation, enabling Participants to grasp and participate in the following lectures and workshops easily. The rest of the week will be filled with substantial laws, such as the procedural aspects of competition law, copyrights and new technologies and the future of copyright. Besides that, you will be able to attend a lecture on fashion law, a legal domain connected with IP and competition law.

Europe is, for many, significant when it comes to legislation. For this reason, we will also visit the European Commission, which will provide you with a deeper understanding of the intersection between Europe and Intellectual Property.
