ELSA Belgium is delighted to welcome you to the third edition of its Summer ELSA Law School, under a new topic; Pharmaceuticals & IP Law, scheduled from June 30 - July 07, 2024. Our SELS will take place in Brussels, the capital of Europe, which is popular for its chocolate, beer, and fries.  

Brussels, often referred to as the heart of Europe, is home to various EU institutions, including the European Parliament, the European Commission and the European Council. It is a vibrant city full of art and stunning architecture, with a rich cultural heritage. Did you know that Brussels is also home to many famous comic artists? At our accommodation, Yooma Brussels, the Comic Book Hotel, you will be able to explore the diverse world of Franco-Belgian comics.

Our SELS will allow you to gain a further understanding of Intellectual Property Law in the pharmaceutical sector. Belgium’s reputation as a global leader in the pharmaceutical industry, together with its strategic location at the heart of Europe, makes it an ideal setting for this SELS. From patent protection and regulatory exclusivity to issues surrounding access to medicines and the challenges posed by emerging technologies, our Academic Programme will provide a nuanced exploration of pharmaceutical IP law.

Moreover, during SELS Belgium, Participants will be able to discover famous landmarks in Brussels, including the Grand Place, the Manneken Pis and the Atomium. We will also visit the city of Bruges, known as the ‘Belgian Venice’, which has medieval buildings, romantic canals, and charming cobbled streets. Our Social Programme will be filled with fun activities to ensure your week in Brussels is unforgettable!

The Academic Programme of SELS Belgium on IP & Pharmaceuticals will offer Participants a nuanced understanding of IP rights in the pharmaceutical sector, with a special focus on Patent Law. Our Programme will begin with a general overview of various IP protection routes in the pharmaceutical industry, followed by a deeper analysis of access to medicines and R&D incentives. At the end of the week, Participants will get a comprehensive perspective on the challenges and opportunities in the dynamic field of Pharmaceuticals & IP.
