Coimbra – Human Rights and Sustainability

ELSA Coimbra is organising its sixth Summer ELSA Law School, which will take place from July 21 - July 28, 2024. Coimbra, renowned as "the city of students," will provide Participants with the opportunity to immerse themselves in its rich academic heritage, explore its historic charm, experience the UNESCO World Heritage university, and engage in vibrant student life. If you plan on joining us in Coimbra, bring your curiosity and passion for learning and let's embark on this academic journey together!

Our Summer ELSA Law School offers an enriching exploration of Human Rights and Sustainability. In Coimbra, these themes intertwine with the vibrant student community, reflecting the city's rich narrative. With a legacy as one of the world's oldest academic hubs and a historic bastion against oppressive regimes, Coimbra has long championed enlightenment and progressive ideals. Here, the ancient buildings echo stories of resilience and progress, embodying Coimbra's enduring commitment to justice and environmental stewardship.

Moreover, this year, we have elected to tackle another pressing issue: sustainability. The importance of this topic cannot be overstated. It's not merely a decision; it's a duty we owe to our planet and future generations as we strive to construct a more environmentally friendly and resilient global community.

In Coimbra, where the enchanting melodies of Fado stir "saudade" - the bittersweet ache of longing - the historic streets exude nostalgia, becoming a canvas for a poetic interplay of memories and the present moment. It's these streets that Participants will walk and experience through our SELS while also tasting our unique cuisine and creating beautiful memories. We are sure that our planned picnics by the Rio Mondego will be the best opportunity for you to enjoy Coimbra's rich cultural heritage.

We look forward to welcoming you in Coimbra and we are sure that you will make lasting memories and meet incredible people!

Here, saudade is not just a word but a feeling.
