With great excitement, ELSA UCP Porto proudly presents the 6th edition of our WELS Oporto on Alternative Dispute Resolution, held annually in the vibrant city of Porto. Join us from February 1 to February 8, 2026, for a week that combines high-quality academic learning, hands-on experience, and full immersion in the culture and life of this dynamic city. Porto, renowned for its rich history, stunning architecture, and vibrant atmosphere, provides the perfect backdrop for this educational event. Participants will have the chance to stroll through picturesque streets, visit historical landmarks, and discover the unique charm of the city.

WELS Oporto invites law students and young legal professionals to delve into Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR). The programme features interactive workshops, expert-led lectures, and practical sessions on mediation, arbitration, and negotiation strategies. The week culminates with an exciting Negotiation Competition, offering a real-world platform to apply new knowledge and skills.

The experience also captures the ELSA Spirit, blending academic development with cultural and social adventures. Participants will enjoy a daytime programme rich in cultural experiences, exploring Porto’s historic neighborhoods and landmarks, and vibrant nightlife activities, including National Drinks Night, Karaoke Night, and our lively Pubcrawl. They will also have the opportunity to savor authentic traditional Portuguese dishes, adding a taste of local culture to the experience.

Academic Programme

The Academic Programme on Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) at the Winter ELSA Law School Oporto offers a comprehensive and engaging experience designed to provide the participants with the knowledge, practical skills, and insights necessary to excel in the field of dispute resolution. The programme begins with an introductory session that provides an overview of ADR, its principles, and its role in modern legal practice.

Throughout the week, the participants will attend a series of interactive lectures and hands-on workshops led by renowned professors and experts with extensive experience in ADR. The programme is carefully designed to combine both theoretical and practical components, covering key mechanisms such as mediation, arbitration, and negotiation strategies. This balanced approach allows the participants to develop critical thinking, problem-solving, and practical skills in real-world scenarios.

The week culminates in an exciting Negotiation Competition, where the participants can apply their knowledge and techniques in a realistic and dynamic setting. By the end of the week, the participants will have gained a deep understanding of ADR, enhanced their professional competencies, and acquired valuable tools to succeed in this growing field.
