WELS Vila Nova de Gaia on Human Rights and International Humanitarian Law

Description

ELSA Portucalense is delighted to announce the seventh edition of the Winter ELSA Law School Vila Nova de Gaia on Human Rights and International Humanitarian Law, taking place from January 31 - February 07, 2027.

This edition of WELS provides participants with a special chance to learn more about Human Rights and International Humanitarian Law in Vila Nova de Gaia and Porto, two cities facing each other across the Douro River and connected by its iconic bridges, whose shared history, resilience and strong sense of community create a meaningful setting for reflecting on the values that these areas of law seek to uphold.

Fully aligned with ELSA's vision, the Academic Programme will offer an in-depth exploration of the legal challenges arising from contemporary armed conflicts. By combining theoretical insight with practical perspectives, the programme will include engaging sessions led by qualified speakers, a visit to the Court of Appeal of Porto and a Moot Court simulation, ensuring an enriching and inspiring academic journey for all participants.

Outside the lecture hall, our Social and Cultural Programme has been meticulously arranged to allow the participants to experience Vila Nova de Gaia and Porto in an authentic and engaging way. From visiting the cities' most iconic locations, including the Clérigos Tower, the Port Wine Cellars and the Portuguese Tram Museum, to enjoying a traditional Francesinha dinner, Portuguese Night and the cities' vibrant nightlife, this WELS will create numerous opportunities for cultural exchange, friendships and unforgettable memories.

The week closes in style with an optional Gala Ball, an elegant farewell where the friendships made along the way take centre stage, so don't forget to make room in your suitcase for your best outfit!

Are you ready for the adventure? Join us at WELS Vila Nova de Gaia and let's make this winter one to remember!
